Routine and structure are necessary.
Nothing gets done if we don't have a schedule and routine. After awhile, though, with no interruptions, routine and structure become mind numbing.
What fun it is to break out of routine and schedule!
If life is too static, we lose our sparkle. If there are no challenges, we begin to mope.
That's when we have to SHAKE things UP a bit, reach for something that seems just beyond the stretch of our arm! Setting Goals is imperative to growth.
Two years ago, I did just that. I became enamored with a Gallery not too far away and decided I wanted to become an Artist in Residence there. I was scared but I followed the protocol, applied and the worst happened.
I was REJECTED! Oh, what humiliation.
Embarassing, yes, but also Instructive. Their criticism was constructive AND encouraging while specifically pointing out the areas in which I needed improvement. It was humble pie to consume but so HELPFUL.
I GOT TO WORK implementing their suggestions. I also got involved in the Gallery. I entered every exhibition and attended every Opening possible. Consequently, I got to know some of the folks involved with the Gallery and they got to know my work.
My efforts paid off. Yesterday, I hung paintings in my new studio at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia! I am excited to begin a new chapter in belonging to an artist community. As always, there is much to learn! Scary, yes! And Exciting.
I look forward to the challenges ahead. What's next? For the time being, I am going to celebrate the opportunity! Focus on painting every day and learning the ropes in this new endeavor.
One Day at a Time. Thank you, God!
